Zonicep 100 contains the active substance Zonisamide, which is an antiepileptic drug. It treats seizures that affect one part of the brain, also known as partial seizures, which may or may not be followed by a seizure affecting the entire brain. The doctor may prescribe Zonicep as a monotherapy to treat seizures in adults. It can also be used with other antiepileptic medicines to treat seizures in adults, adolescents, and children aged six years of age and above. The active ingredient, Zonisamide belongs to a class of drugs known as sulphonamides which can cause allergic reactions, blood disorders, severe skin rashes, which rarely can be life-threatening. Talk to your doctor before taking Zonicep 100 capsules.
Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions when it comes to taking Zonicep 100 mg. Staring a new medicine without the doctor’s consent can be dangerous; therefore, use any medicinal product only under a doctor’s supervision. This anticonvulsant drug is available in the form of a capsule. The usual recommended dose is 100 mg each day. After seven days of treatment or more, your doctor may increase your dose depending on your condition. It may be recommended to achieve the best control for your seizures. For best results, take only the number of capsules you were told to consume with enough water. It is important to swallow the capsule whole; do not bite into or break it. You may take it before or after consuming food. Inform your doctor if you miss a dose. If you suspect an overdose, call your doctor straight away. Drink plenty of water; at least 6 to 8 glasses per day. This helps to prevent kidney stones. Get your doctor’s permission before stopping the medication. Sudden discontinuation may result in serious problem-status epilepticus.
Do not take Zonicep capsules if you are allergic to Zonisamide or any other ingredients present in the medication. You should also completely avoid the treatment if you are allergic to other sulphonamide medicines. Such medicines include thiazide diuretics, sulphonamide antibiotics, and sulfonylurea antidiabetic agents. The antiepileptic drug may make you drowsy; therefore, it is best to avoid driving or indulging in activities that require you to be alert. Let your doctor know if you take any other medicines, including non-prescription medicines. You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Your doctor will decide whether you are a suitable candidate for Zonicep or not. It is not known whether the anticonvulsant drug passes through breast milk to the baby or not.
The most common side effects are loss of appetite, drowsiness, nausea, irritability, headache, drowsiness, agitation, and nausea. These unwanted effects can occur at any time but mostly develop during the initial four weeks of the treatment. You must contact your doctor right away if you develop skin rash, depression, drowsiness, kidney stones, blood problem, difficulty concentrating, coordination problems, worsening of seizures, speech, or language problems.
