Vomistop 10 mg is a prescription medicine that increases the movements or contractions of the stomach or bowel. The medicine's active ingredient is Domperidone, which is used in adults to treat nausea, vomiting, heavy bloating, and stomach discomfort when food contents flow back into the gullet, as with heartburn and belching. The medicine may increase the risk of rhythmic heart disease, and the risk is more in elderly patients.
Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. If you are unsure of anything, consult your doctor. Do not take medicine in the wrong way. Stick to the dosing regimen provided by your doctor. If you do not feel better after two weeks of treatment, speak to your doctor straight away. Usually, a doctor may recommend taking Vomistop 10 mg before meals, as when after meals, the absorption of the Domperidone is slightly delayed. For adults and adolescents over twelve years of age with a bodyweight of 35 kg or more, 1 or 2 tablets 3 or 4 times daily. Your doctor may advise taking the tablet 15 to 30 minutes before meals and bedtime. The maximum daily recommended dose is 80 mg. Take the pill with a glass full of water. Do not break or chew the tablet. If you take more tablets than the recommended amount, you may experience overdose events such as seizure, confusion, agitation, and uncontrolled movements. Contact your doctor immediately, in particular when you experience any of these symptoms due to an overdose.
Do not take Vomistop 10 mg if you are allergic to Domperidone or any other medicine ingredients. Do not take medicine if you have stomach bleeding, have severe abdominal pain, or have a blocked gut. You should not take medicine if you have a pituitary gland or have a phenylketonuria disorder. The medicine is not suitable for children under twelve years of age. Consult your doctor for the dosage of children. If you have liver or kidney disorder, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. It is important to discuss with your doctor before taking medicine. When your doctor does not prescribe Vomistop, you should not use it for more than 14 days. You should speak to your doctor if your symptoms do not disappear even after 14 days of treatment. Do not take longer than two weeks unless prescribed by the doctor.
Like all medicines, Vomistop 10 mg can cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them. Dry mouth is the most common side effects of the medicine. Stop treatment with Domperidone and contact your doctor immediately if you experience unwanted effects such as headache, anxiety, diarrhea, rash, itchiness, painful or tender breasts, milk discharge from breasts, or a general feeling of weakness.
The use of Domperidone may be associated with an increased risk of heart rhythm disorder and cardiac arrest. The risk is more common in elderly patients over 60 years or those who take higher doses of Domperidone. The effective lowest dose should be used in adults and children. If you notice any other side effect not listed in the patient leaflet, speak to your doctor straight away.
