Virovir 500mg is a prescription antiviral medicine used for the following conditions:
 — Outbreaks of cold sores in healthy adults
 — Outbreaks of genital herpes in healthy adults
 — Decrease the number of outbreaks of genital herpes in healthy adults
 — Outbreaks of herpes simplex lesions in or around the mouth, genitals, and anal areas in people affected with HIV.
 — Shingles (herpes zoster) in adults with the healthy immune system

Virovir is not a herpes cure. It is still unknown if Famciclovir can stop the spread of herpes to others. If you are sexually active, you can transmit herpes to your partner even if you take Virovir tablets. You can pass herpes to others even if you do not have active symptoms.
You should practice safer sex to reduce the risk of transmitting or spreading genital herpes to others. Avoid having sexual contact with your partner during an outbreak of genital herpes or if you develop any symptoms of genital herpes. Use condoms when you make love. Discuss with your doctor for more information about safer sex practices.
Your doctor will tell you how many Virovir tablets to take and when to take them. Depending on your condition, your dose of Famciclovir and how often you take it may differ. It can be taken before or after consuming food. It is important for you to finish all the medicines as prescribed, even if your condition improves. Your symptoms may continue even after you finish the entire course of treatment. This does not mean that you need more medicine since you have already finished the course of Famciclovir, and it will continue to work in your body. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about your condition and treatment. Â
Do not take Virovir 500 mg if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine. Before taking Virovir tablets, tell your doctor if the following applies to you have:

 — Renal or hepatic insufficiency
 — A rare genetic problem with galactose intolerance, a severe lactase deficiency, or you do not absorb glucose-galactose.
 — Are you pregnant or planning to conceive. It is unknown if Famciclovir will harm your unborn baby.
 — Are breastfeeding

Tell your doctor about all your medicines, including prescription and non-prescription medicine (vitamins, minerals, and herbal preparations). Especially tell your doctor if you take probenecid or any other medicines and products you use to treat herpes outbreaks.
It is unknown whether Virovir is safe and effective in children younger than 18. Â
The most common side effects of Virovir 500 include nausea and headache. Talk to your doctor if you have any side effects that trouble you or don’t resolve within a few days. These are not possible side effects of Famciclovir. Ask your doctor for more information. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
