Topamac 100 mg have Topiramate as an active ingredient that belongs to the medicines called anti-epileptic medicines. It is used as a monotherapy to treat seizures and children over age 6. Topiramate with other medicines is used to treat seizures in adults and children aged two years of age and above. Your doctor may also prescribe this medication for the prevention of migraine headaches in adults. Â
Always take Topamac 100 mg exactly as your doctor has instructed you. Check with your doctor if you have any doubt about the usage of the medicine. Your doctor will usually start the treatment with a lower dose of Topamac and slowly increase your dose until the best is determined for you. The medicine is available in the form of a tablet that you need to swallow with a glass of water. Avoid breaking or chewing the tablet, as the medicine may leave a very bitter taste. It is best to take the tablet during or after a meal. Make sure you drink plenty of water during the entire treatment to prevent kidney stones while taking the anti-seizure drug. If you take more tablets, see a doctor right away. You may feel sleepy or tired or have a lack of coordination after an overdose of Topiramate.

If you have signs of depression or any unusual changes in your behaviour, you should report this to your doctor. Anti-seizure medicine may cause decreased sweating and increased body temperature. Paediatric patients should be watched for signs of decreased sweating and fever, especially in summers. Call your doctor straight away if you have a high fever. The drug may cause drowsiness which could affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It may also cause eye problems such as blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
Like all pharmaceutical agents, Topamac 100 mg can cause side effects; however, not everyone who receives this anti-seizure medicine gets them. Tell your doctor if you get these common side effects of the medicine. Common side effects of Topamac 100 mg are seizures, kidney stone, change in mood, irritability, anxiety, problems with concentration, loss of memory etc. Rarely, an individual may experience increased blood pressure, glaucoma, difficulty thinking, serious skin reactions such as skin irritation, rashes without or without blisters, swelling in the mouth, nose, eyes, and around the genitals. Report the side effects of the medicine to your doctors.
