Telma 80 mg is a prescription medicine containing Telmisartan (active ingredient), which belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptors antagonists or blockers. Angiotensin II is a chemical produced in the body that causes the contraction of muscles surrounding the blood vessels. This causes the narrowing of the blood vessels, increases pressure within the vessels, and can cause high blood pressure (hypertension). Telma 80 mg significantly reduces cardiovascular events, renal problems, and diabetic symptoms in adults due to reduced blood supply to the heart and other parts of the body. Consult a doctor to know whether you have a high risk of these events. Do take this medicine under the supervision of a doctor.
The recommended dose of Telma in adults is 80 mg twice every day. The dose should be adjusted according to the patient's response to the drug under the supervision of your doctor. Report to your doctor after a regular time interval of 3 to 4 weeks. Your blood pressure medicine is available in the form of a tablet, and this makes it easier to be consumed orally with a sufficient amount of water. Swallow this medicine with water. Do not chew it. If you forget to take your medication, do take it as soon as you remember it. In the case of any complications, please contact your doctor immediately. In case you take an extra dose, consult your doctor and do as instructed.
Telma 80 mg drug is reported to contraindicate in case of allergic reactions and angioedema. Also, patients who are sensitive to other angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors should avoid taking Telmisartan. You should give the doctor all the relevant information related to your medical background. Telmisartan has been reported to cause severe hypersensitive reactions in some cases. Telmisartan drug is known to interact with the following drugs:
- Aliskiren – can increase complications in a patient with diabetes and renal problems
- Digoxin – can increase the plasma concentration
- Lithium – can increase the serum concentration and toxicity
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, including selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors – can affect renal functions
- Ramipril and Ramiprilat – can enhance the combined effect of Telmisartan
Telma 80 mg is known to have severe complications, and some of them are dizziness, frequent chills, body pain, skin problems, skin oedema, diarrhoea or constipation, nausea, fever, breathing difficulties, weight gain or weight loss, loss of appetite, allergic outburst, headache, cough, and cold.
