Sebowash shampoo is supplied as a formulation with 0.01% fluocinolone acetonide as the active ingredient. It is a prescription product used on the scalp to treat a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis, a common skin problem mainly affecting your scalp. It causes inflamed skin, scaly patched, and stubborn dandruff.
The product should be shaken well before use. No more than approximately one ounce of the medical solution should be applied to the scalp once daily, worked into the lather, and allowed to remain on the scalp for about five minutes. The scalp should then be rinsed thoroughly with water. Â
Patients using Sebowash shampoo should receive the following instructions:
- Use Sebowash shampoo as directed by the physician. Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of accidental contact, wash your eyes with water.
- The solution should not be used for any condition that was prescribed.
- Patients should promptly report to their dermatologist any worsening of the skin condition.
- The treated scalp area should not be covered or wrapped to be occlusive unless directed by the dermatologist.
- As with other corticosteroids, treatment should be discontinued when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within two weeks, contact the doctor.
Sebowash shampoo is contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity or to any of the components of this medicine. The safety and effectiveness of the product in children and infants have not been established. Before using the shampoo, let your doctor know about all your medical conditions, including if you have a scalp infection. You may receive medical treatment to get rid of the scalp infection before you use Sebowash shampoo.
Especially inform your dermatologist if you take other oral corticosteroids or use products on your skin that contains corticosteroids with Sebowash shampoo.
The side effects have been reported infrequently with topical corticosteroids. They may occur more frequently with occlusive dressings, especially with corticosteroids. These reactions include allergic contact dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, acneiform eruptions, dryness, folliculitis burning, itching, hypopigmentation, secondary infection, miliaria, striae, and skin atrophy.
These are not all the possible side effects of Fluocinolone shampoo. For more information, call your doctor to get the appropriate advice about side effects.
