Pantocid DSR is used in conditions when an excess of gastric acid leads to acid reflux, erosion of the oesophagus lining, and heartburn. It helps heal the oesophagus and stomach lining and prevent ulcer formation and cancer of the oesophagus. This medicine can be used in the treatment of ulcerations and their maintenance. Pantocid DSR is a drug with a combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone. Pantoprazole is a drug that reduces the production of acid in the stomach. It is prescribed for erosive esophagitis, gastric reflux and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is caused due to tumours present in the pancreas. This tumour induces the secretion of acid from stomach cells and causes ulceration in the stomach. Domeperidone is an antiemetic. It reduces the incidence of vomiting associated with increased gastric acid. It slows down the movement of the gastrointestinal tract. Together, these drugs help heal ulcers and manage to vomit, bloating, nausea, etc., associated with excess acid. Pantoprazole may be prescribed along with antibiotics for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infections. The drug may be used to treat ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that irritate the gastric lining. It belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. Domperidone provides relief from nausea and vomiting associated with these conditions. It is a dopamine receptor D2 and D3 antagonist.
Take Pantocid DSR as instructed by your doctor. The dose may vary from person to person, depending on the intensity of the problem. The capsule can be taken with or without food. For maximum effectiveness, take tablets with a glass of water before meals. Swallow the capsules as a whole and do not chew. Take the dose at the same times every day. Taking the drug at different times or skipping doses will slow down the healing of ulcers.
Long-term treatment with Pantocid DSR may cause vitamin B12 deficiency, atrophic gastritis, and low magnesium levels. Your doctor may routinely carry out tests for vitamin B12 and magnesium levels to ensure the drug is not affecting their metabolism. The drug interferes with calcium absorption in bones. During long-term treatment, susceptibility to fractures may increase. The consumption of this drug can lead to false positive in the urine test. The acidic pH of the stomach plays an important role in preventing pathogens from causing diseases. This drug changes gastric pH and may make patients susceptible to pneumonia. Pantocid capsules should not be used for immediate relief of heartburns. This drug may cause abnormalities in heart rate as Domperidone affects dopamine receptors. Seek immediate medical assistance if you experience any cardiac-related issues. This medicine may result in increased levels of the hormone prolactin, affect kidney function and liver function.
Pantocid DSR 40 mg 30 mg of common side effects may include a headache, fever, cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, stomach pain, gas, nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhoea, or joint pain. Severe side effects include diarrhoea, seizures (convulsions), blood in your urine, constipation, rashes, joint pain, dizziness, blistering or peeling of the skin, and weight gain. Symptoms of low magnesium include dizziness, confusion, abnormal heart rate, tremors, muscle cramps and spasms, and a choking feeling. Seek immediate medical help if any of these effects occur.
