Oxramet XR 10/1000 mg is a prescription medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar when treatment with either Dapagliflozin or metformin has not controlled your blood sugar. It is not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

This medicine contains two different substances called metformin and Dapagliflozin. Both of them belong to a group of medicines called oral antidiabetics. This is a medication taken by mouth for diabetes. If you have type 2 diabetes, your pancreas can’t make enough insulin, or your body cannot properly use the insulin it produces. This contributes to the high level of sugar in your bloodstream. Metformin inhibits glucose production in the liver, whereas Dapagliflozin removes excess sugar from your body via urine and lowers the sugar level in the bloodstream. It also helps to prevent heart problems.

The amount of Oxramet XR you will take varies depending on your condition and the doses of metformin or individual tablets of metformin and Dapagliflozin. Generally, the recommended dose is one tablet twice a day. Swallow the pill with a glass full of water. Take the tablet with food. This helps to reduce the risk of side effects in the stomach. Take it twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Your doctor may prescribe Oxramet XR on its own or together with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes. This may be another medicine taken orally and given as an insulin shot to help your body increase insulin release when your blood sugar is high. If you take metformin and Dapagliflozin as single tablets, your doctor may ask you to switch to this medicine. Do not discontinue taking metformin and dapagliflozin tablets if you are taking Oxramet XR to avoid overdose. It is important to continue to follow your doctor’s advice on diet and exercise given by him.

Do not take Oxramet  XR  if you are allergic to metformin, Dapagliflozin, or any other ingredients in the medicine. Avoid taking this antidiabetic agent if you have impaired kidney function, severe infection, liver problems, or drink large amounts of alcohol. Stop taking Oxramet XR for a short time if you have a condition associated with dehydration, such as severe vomiting, diarrhea, or drinking less fluid than normal.

Discontinue treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you experience some of the symptoms of lactic acidosis, as this condition may lead to a coma. Symptoms may include vomiting, muscle cramps, stomachache, difficulty breathing, reduced heartbeat and body temperature, and a general feeling of not being well with severe tiredness. If you need major surgery, you must discontinue treatment for some time after the procedure. Your doctor will decide when you must stop the medication and when to restart your treatment with Oxramet XR.

Oxramet XR is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 because it has not been studied in these patients. It is important to tell your doctor if you take any other medicines. You may need more frequent blood glucose and kidney function tests, or your doctor may adjust the dosage of Oxramet XR. It is important to mention medicines to treat stomach problems, asthma, arthritis, pain and inflammation, high blood pressure, low blood sugar etc.

Common side effects include rash, dizziness, thrush (genital infection), back pain, discomfort when passing urine, and changes in the number of red blood cells, cholesterol, and fats (shown in tests). If you get any side effects, speak to your doctor. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this information guide.
