Nizonide 500 mg is used to treat infections due to cryptosporidium species in adults. It has the active ingredient Nitazoxanide, a thiazolide class of drugs with a wide spectrum of activity against parasites and anaerobic bacteria. It is given by the oral route and is well tolerated with mild gastrointestinal side effects. Nitazoxanide has been approved for treatment in children with healthy immune systems. It is presently not approved to treat the immunodeficient individual. According to clinical research, the medicine may take up to five days for diarrhoea to resolve 80% of patients. Because of the lower parasitological cure rate, doctors still recommend that all infected persons, including those who have completed treatment, avoid swimming for at least two weeks after resolving symptoms.
Nizonide 500 mg is suitable for all persons who are above one year of age. In general, the usual dose for immunocompetent adults is 500 mg for three days. For the treatment of paediatrics, 1 to 3 years, 100 mg for three days may be recommended. Paediatric dosage for children 4 to 11 years- the recommended dose is 200 mg for three days. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body remains in the system at a constant level. Therefore, it is best to take the drug at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take the drug for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms disappear after a few doses. Discontinuation of dug too early may result in a return of the infection. Tell your condition if it does not improve or gets worse.
