Nizol 200 tablets should only be used when other antifungal therapy is not available or tolerated. Your doctor may prescribe this antifungal medication only when the potential benefits are considered to outweigh the potential risks. The tablet contains ketoconazole that is used to treat fungal infections.

Each Nizol tablets contain 200 mg of Ketoconazole. The dose usually depends on the type of infection that is being treated. Your doctor may ask to take one tablet a day. You may take this 200 mg tablet with a meal. Do not take an antacid simultaneously since an acid environment in the stomach is required for Nizol to be well absorbed into the body. If you need to take an antacid, then consider taking it an hour before or two hours after the ketoconazole is used. If you are already using anti-ulcer medications that can reduce the acidity of the stomach, absorption may be improved by taking ketoconazole with carbonated cola or cranberry juice. Take the antifungal drug for the duration of time it is prescribed. If you discontinue treatment too early, your infection may return. If your infection worsens or persist, talk to your doctor.

Do not take Nizol if you have liver problems or are allergic to ketoconazole or any of the ingredients of Nizol tablet.  You should not take certain drugs if your doctor has prescribed you a ketoconazole formulation. Certain medicines may affect each other. Using antifungal drugs with other medicines can lead to serious complications. Such medications include eletriptan, astemizole, cisapride, levomethadyl, pimozide, lovastatin, quinidine, simvastatin, nisoldipine, quinidine, triazolam, oral midazolam, dofetillide, and ergot alkaloids. If you wish to start a new prescription medicine, vitamins, or herbal supplement, please consult with your doctor before doing so. Before taking ketoconazole, tell your doctor if you have adrenal insufficiency or an abnormal heart rhythm. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. Do not drink alcohol while receiving ketoconazole tablets.

Side effects of Nizol 200 mg include nausea, itching, and abdominal pain. Less common side effects of this medicine include headache, fever, rash, drowsiness, diarrhoea, and dizziness. If your eyes become sensitive to light, consider wearing dark glasses. Breast tenderness or pain may occur in male patients. If these unwanted effects occur and are bothersome, please call your doctor. Ketoconazole can increase liver enzymes; however, this does not produce symptoms. Rarely, an individual may experience hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). These signs are fever, dark urine, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, pale urine fatigue, pale stools, and abdominal pain. Consult your doctor right away if any of these symptoms occur. Other rare side effects of the medicine are lowering of WBCs and platelets. Call a doctor if your doctor if you notice any symptoms of fever, chills, bleeding or bruising.
