Micogel 0.02% is a vaginal cream that cures most vaginal yeast infections. It contains miconazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent of the imidazole group, which relieves itching and irritation on the skin outside the vagina due to a yeast infection. The drug is primarily used as a topical treatment for vulvovaginal candidiasis and the relief of particularly severe itching and irritation associated with the condition. A vaginal yeast infection is an imbalance in the vagina caused most by an overgrowth of Candida albicans. Candida is an organism that normally lives in the vagina.
Usually, a three-day regimen is preferred, with the 1- or 7-day regimens providing effective alternatives. Many women find it more comfortable to use this topical formulation before going to bed to reduce vaginal leakage. Apply a thin layer of Micogel cream to the itch and irritated genital area. Gently massage until the cream disappears or get absorbed into the skin. Your doctor may ask you to apply the cream once or twice daily for up to a week as long as the symptoms are visible. For correct usage instructions, please consult your doctor.
If you have yeast infection symptoms such as vaginal burning, itching, and white discharge, use Micogel 0.02% as directed by your doctor. If, however, you have never had these symptoms before, you should talk to your doctor so that your condition can be properly diagnosed. The topical formulation is only effective in treating vaginal infections caused by yeast Candida. It is not active against other infections and does not prevent pregnancy. The medicine is not meant for oral administration. Let your doctor know if you have a fever, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, pain in the back or lower abdomen before or during this topical treatment. You may get a more serious condition. Generally, relief of symptoms begin within three days, but if complete relief is not felt within a week of treatment, your condition worsens, or your symptoms return within two months. You may be suspected of having something other than a candida infection. You should speak to your doctor. If you take oral anticoagulants such as warfarin, talk to your doctor before using the Miconazole formulation, as bruising or bleeding may occur.
While side effects associated with the use of Micogel 0.02% are rare, a few might occur. These include hives, headaches, skin rash, and abdominal cramping. Sometimes, a temporary increase in itching, redness, burning and irritation can occur during the initial days of the treatment. If you develop a temporary increase in burning with Micogel cream, your doctor may change the strength of your medication the next time you develop a vaginal yeast infection. If hives, skin rashes, new irritation, or abdominal cramp occurs, discontinue treatment and call your doctor.Â
