Metaspray 50 mcg is used to treat and prevent seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms such as itching, nose, stuffy nose, and sneezing. It is also effective in treating certain growths in the nose (nasal polyps). The medicine contains mometasone, which belongs to a class of medications known as corticosteroids. The class of drugs works by reducing inflammation (swelling) in the nasal passages.
Before spraying, shake the container well and actuate the pump ten times. If the pump is not used for two weeks or longer, reprime the pump with two actuation until a uniform spray appears before the next use.
Use this medication as directed/prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily for a runny nose and once or two times a day for polyps. Do not spray the medication in the eyes and mouth. Gently blow your nose before using the medication. To use metal spray, remove the protective cap first. Close your one nostril with your finger. Carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat the process in the other nostril. Clean the applicator tips by wiping them off. Ensure you do not blow your nose for 15 minutes after using this medication.Â
The dosage is usually based on the patient’s medical condition and response to treatment. Younger children may require a smaller dose. To help you remember, use the medication daily. Do not change your dosing regimen in between. The nasal spray will not work right away. Some people may feel the effects within two days, but it may take up to two weeks before full effects occur. When using mometasone spray to prevent seasonal allergy symptoms, you may need to take the treatment 2 to 4 weeks before pollen season appears. Ask your doctor if you should also use other medications (such as oral antiallergic drugs and eye or nose drops). Â
Metaspray should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient mometasone furoate or any of the excipients of the medicine. It is contraindicated in patients with untreated localized infections involving the nasal cavity, such as herpes simplex. Mometasone spray should be used cautiously in patients with respiratory tract infections or untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Â
Throat dryness, nose irritation, nosebleeds, and blood-tinged mucus may occur. If these side effects persist or worsen, speak to your doctor immediately. Many people using this nasal spray do not have serious side effects. Inform your doctor right away if serious side effects occur. The serious side effects include pain in your nose, the development of sores in your nose, and pain/trouble swallowing.
