Mamofen is a prescription medicine for women with breast cancer. It contains Tamoxifen which belongs to a group of drugs known as anti-estrogens. Estrogen is a hormone that produces naturally in the body, and some breast cancers need this natural substance to grow. Tamoxifen tablets block the activity of estrogen in the body.  It also helps reduce the risk of breast cancer in women due to age and family medical history. It effectively treats breast cancer in women who earlier underwent surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Your doctor may also prescribe a Tamoxifen formulation to treat infertility caused by failure to ovulate (produce and release an egg) properly.

Take Mamofen 10 mg tablet with a glass of water. You may take it with or without food at regular intervals, as instructed by your doctor. Do not break or crush the tablet; for best results, use this anti-cancer medication under the supervision of a doctor. Your doctor will decide the correct dose depending on your medical condition. For treatment of cancer, the recommended daily dose is 20 mg. Remember, there is no additional benefit in taking a higher dose of Tamoxifen when treating carcinoma of the breast. Pre-menopausal women may have less frequent periods while receiving this anti-cancer therapy.

For reducing the risk of breast cancer, the suggested daily dose is 20 mg for five years. Do not take an additional dose or longer than recommended.

When it comes to treating infertility, the dose depends on your menstrual cycle. In general, Tamoxifen 20 mg is given on the second, third, fourth, and fifth days of your menstrual cycle. If your initial course of treatment is unsuccessful, further treatment may be recommended during subsequent periods, increasing the dose of the medicine daily. The anti-cancer drug is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age.

Do not take Mamofen 10 mg if you are hypersensitive to Tamoxifen or any other ingredients of the medicine. If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, you may not be suitable for this anti-cancer drug. Avoid taking a tamoxifen formulation if you are taking anastrozole for breast cancer. The anti-cancer formulation is contraindicated in patients with a family history of blood clots with an unknown cause or an inherited condition that increases the risk of blood clots. You should not be taking Mamofen if you are already taking medicines to prevent blood clots, such as warfarin. If you are planning to undergo surgery, you should inform your doctor as they may wish to consider treatment discontinuation with Tamoxifen for a short time.

The most common side effects of the medicine include mood swings, hot flashes, vaginal bleeding, fluid retention, and nausea. If any of these side effects bother you or appear serious, inform your doctor. Your doctor will tell you ways to stop or prevent them. This medicine may make your contraceptive pill, hence use an effective contraceptive measure to avoid pregnancy.
