Lamivir tablets contain 100 mg of the active ingredient Lamivudine, an antiviral drug known to suppress the hepatitis virus and categorized under the class of drugs called nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Lamivudine effectively treats long term or chronic hepatitis B infection in adults. Hepatitis B virus affects the liver, causing long term complications and ultimately leading to liver damage. Lamivudine can be given to people with a damaged liver but still functions normally and combined with other drugs in people whose liver is damaged and does not function. This antiviral therapy can cause a significant reduction in the amount of the hepatitis B virus in your body. This improves liver function. However, not everyone responds to the treatment in the same way. Your doctor determines the effectiveness of the antiviral treatment with regular blood tests.
Do not stop taking the Lamivir 100 tablets without your doctor’s advice, as there is a risk of your hepatitis getting worse. Stay in contact with your health care specialist during the entire treatment. Lamivudine effectively controls hepatitis B infection, and you need to keep taking medicine as prescribed by your doctor to control your infection and stop your illness from getting worse. The recommended daily dose is Lamivir 100 mg. Your doctor may prescribe a low dose if you have impaired kidney function. Swallow the tablet with some water. You must not discontinue treatment without consulting your doctor. Sudden discontinuation is associated with a risk of your hepatitis getting worse.
Do not take Lamivir or 100 mg if you are allergic to Lamivudine or any other inactive ingredients of the medicine. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. Speak to your doctor before taking this Lamivir formulation. Some people taking Lamivudine or other similar antiviral medicines are more at risk of serious side effects. If you have ever had other types of hepatic impairment or are seriously overweight. If any of these applies to you, you may need extra check-ups that include blood tests while you are taking medicine.Â
Hepatitis B infection can spread by sexual contact with someone who has the infection or by transferring infected blood. Note-Lamivir 100 mg will not stop you from passing the hepatitis B infection on to other people. To protect your partner and other people from becoming infected with hepatitis B, including the use of a condom and other effective contraceptive measures. Also, do not risk blood transfer; do not share needles. Remember to tell your health care professional about all the medicines while you are taking Lamivir tablets.Â
