Lamitor 200 mg contains Lamotrigine, which belongs to the class of medications known as antiepileptics. It is effective in treating two conditions, namely epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Lamotrigine acts by blocking the signals in the brain that trigger epileptic seizures. For adults and children aged 13 years and over, Lamitor can be used as a monotherapy or in combination with antiepileptic medicines. Your doctor may prescribe it with other drugs to treat the seizures associated with a condition called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
It is very important that you and take Lamitor exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may make dose adjustments as per your condition. Carefully follow the instructions given by your doctor. Do not make dose adjustments by yourself. If you discontinue hormonal contraceptives or other hormonal female products, your doctor will give specific instructions regarding the dosage. Lamitor is not recommended for two years children aged under two years. Your doctor may ask you to take Lamotrigine once or twice daily, as per your doctor advice. You may take it before or after consuming food. Your doctor may advise whether it is right to start taking other medicines or not. The drug dosage depends on what condition you are being treated for and how your body responds to the treatment. Lamitor 200 is available in the form of a tablet that you need to swallow whole with a glass full of water. If you take too much of this drug, you may be more likely to have serious side effects which may be life-threatening.
Do not take Lamitor 200 mg if you are hypersensitive to Lamotrigine or any of the medicine ingredients. Consult your doctor before taking a Lamotrigine tablet. An overdose may cause uncontrollable eye movements, lack of coordination, heart rhythm changes, loss of consciousness, and fits. If you are pregnant or think you may conceive, ask your doctor for advice before taking Lamotrigine. If you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, please consult your doctor for advice. The active ingredient may pass into breast milk and may affect your baby. Your doctor will decide whether you are a suitable candidate for this antiepileptic drug or not. Therefore, it is best to ask your doctor for advice before taking medicine.
You should not discontinue treatment without discussing it with your doctor. This is particularly important if you are dealing with epilepsy. Do not drive and use machines as this antiepileptic drug can cause dizziness and double vision.
Side effects of Lamitor 200 mg include dizziness, nasal congestion, skin rash, tremor, poor coordination, sleepiness, headache, double vision, blurred vision, aggression, irritability, difficulty sleeping, vomiting, upset stomach, pain in your neck, joint pain, abdomen pain, and dizziness.
