Glynase XL is an orally active hypoglycaemic sulphonylurea. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of mild to moderate, stable, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus without the likelihood of ketosis, which can’t be adequately controlled by diet alone. Treatment with Glynase XL is indicated only if a satisfactory reduction in blood glucose has not been achieved by other measures such as strict adherence to the recommended diet, weight reduction in overweight patients, and adequate exercise.  Â
Follow your doctor’s advice when taking Glynase XL 10 mg. Glynase XL is available in the form of a tablet. Take the tablet once daily with breakfast. The tablet is designed in such a way that it releases the medicine slowly over 24 hours. This is the reason why you need to take it once daily. Swallow the pill with a glass full of water. Do not chew, crush, or cut the tablet in half. Doing this may damage the tablet and release too much of this medicine into your body at one time. You must take medicine daily to help control your blood sugar level. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your blood glucose test results.
If your blood glucose level is not under control, please talk to your doctor. Do not make changes to your dosing regimen without your doctor’s permission. You must continue your diet and exercise program while taking Glynase XL tablets. Your doctor will regularly conduct blood and urine tests to ensure the antidiabetic agent works. Glynase XL may not be effective for everyone. Tell your doctor if Glipizide 10 mg is not working well.Â
Do not use Glynase XL if you have a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis or if you are allergic to Glipizide or any other ingredients in the formulation. Only your doctor can decide if Glipizide is right for you. Some medicines can affect the mechanism of action of Glynase XL or may affect your blood sugar level. Check with your doctor before you start or stop taking prescription or over-the-counter products, including minerals, vitamins, and natural supplements, while receiving Glipizide therapy.
Glynase XL 10 mg may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) that can be life-threatening. This can happen if you do not follow your diet, indulge in an intense workout, drink excessive alcohol, are stressed, or get sick. This is more likely to happen if your dose of Glipizide is higher than you need. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose. Do not make any changes to your dosing regimen by yourself.
Make sure you recognize the signs of low blood sugar is too low. The signs of low blood sugar include dizziness, shakiness, unusual sweating, a cold, clammy feeling, blurred vision, headache, fast heartbeat, trembling, and tingling in the lips or hands. If you notice any of these signs, eat a sugar candy or have a sugary beverage, such as a regular soft drink or orange juice. You can also keep glucose tablets handy that are available at your pharmacy. Call your doctor if you do not feel well or your blood sugar level does not increase. Â
