Emeset 8 mg contains Ondansetron, which belongs to a group of drugs known as anti-emetics. Ondansetron is known to inhibit the effect of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical that causes nausea and vomiting. Emeset also effectively prevents or treats nausea and vomiting caused by medical treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Be sure to take Emeset 8 mg as prescribed by your doctor. Discuss with your doctor if you do not understand the dosing regimen on your prescription to treat sickness in patients receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The usual dose is 8 mg 1 to 2 hours before chemotherapy or radiotherapy, followed by Emeset 8mg twelve hours later. To protect delayed or further episodes of nausea and vomiting, a dose of 8mg may be continued twice daily for up to five days after treatment. Discuss with your doctor if Emeset 8mg is a suitable medicine for children. Usually, in this case, the dose will depend on the size and weight of the child.
For patients with liver problems, the total daily dose should not exceed more than 8mg.
To prevent episodes of nausea and vomiting after an operation in adults, your doctor may give Emeset 8mg one hour before the operation, then another tablet eight hours after the first dose then a further administration of Ondansetron 8mg after the second dose. If you get sick within one hour of receiving Ondansetron medicine, your doctor may ask you to take another tablet. If you have any about the dosing regimen, please speak to your doctor.
Do not take Emeset 8mg if you are allergic to Ondansetron or are taking apomorphine. Talk to your doctor before taking Emeset tablets if you have a blockage in your gut, heart problem, liver problems, an uneven heartbeat, or have problems with the levels of salts in your blood. An Ondansetron formulation may affect the mode of action of other drugs, and other medications can affect the mechanism of action of Ondansetron. It is especially important to tell your doctor if you take medicines to treat epilepsy, antibiotics, anti-arrhythmias, cancer, and high blood pressure medicines. Ask your doctor for advice if you are already pregnant, think you might be pregnant or plan to conceive a baby. You should not breastfeed while receiving this anti-emetic drug. Discuss with your doctor before taking An Ondansetron formulation while you are breastfeeding your baby.
Common side effects of Emeset 8 mg are constipation, headache, burning sensation, the sensation of flushing and warmth. If you are concerned about any side effects, please talk to your doctor. If any of these side effects gets serious, please inform your doctor.
