Dexona 4 mg contains the active ingredient Dexamethasone, which belongs to the group of medicines called steroids or corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are produced naturally in the body and help to maintain overall health. Boosting your body with extra corticosteroids is an effective way to treat various illnesses, including inflammation in the body. Dexona reduces inflammation, which could otherwise continue to make your condition worse. It suppresses your body’s natural ability to make corticosteroids. As a result, during prolonged treatment, any new disease, trauma, or surgical procedure will require a temporary increase in dosage; if the corticosteroid therapy has been recently stopped, it may need to be started again. Â
Dexona 4 mg injection may be given intravenously or intramuscularly. This medicine may also be diluted with glucose or sodium chloride solution and administered as a slow injection through a drip into a vein. The dose usually depends on your age and medical condition and will be carefully adjusted by the doctor. You are less likely to need a shot of dexamethasone for more than a week or two unless you receive it for treatment of arthritis joints when treatment may continue for longer. Do not use Dexon injection in the following situations:
    — Allergic to dexamethasone or other ingredients in the medicine, including sulfites.
    — Infection at the injection site, particularly in the joint where Dexon injection will be injected.
    — An infection affecting the whole body is not being treated with antibiotics.
    — Unstable joint, where dexamethasone solution for injection will be injected.

Talk to your doctor before using Dexon injection: Â Â
- If you have ever had severe depression or manic depression. This includes having had depression before while taking steroid medicines like dexamethasone.
- If you develop symptoms of tumour lysis syndrome such as muscle weakness, visual loss or disturbances, muscle cramping, confusion, and shortness of breath, you suffer from haematological malignancy.
- If any of your close family members have had these illnesses
- If you have suffered a stroke or a head injury

Take special care with Dexon solution for injection, and check with your doctor first if you have any of the following conditions:
    — High blood pressure
    — A history of migraines
    — Liver, kidney or heart problems
    — Osteoporosis
    — Blood cancer
    — An underactive thyroid
    — Epilepsy
    — Had exposure to shingles, chickenpox, or measles
    — Stomach ulcers
    — Stunted growth
    — An eye disease called glaucoma
    — Diabetes
    — Herpes or fungal infection of the eye
Dexon can cause side effects in some people. Some problems such as stomach problems and mood changes can happen right away. If you are not well in any way, keep taking medicine but see your doctor straight away. Â
