Cosart 50 mg is a prescription medicine for treating hypertension to lower blood pressure in adults and children greater than six years old. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of moderate to severe cardiovascular health issues. It can be prescribed alone or in combination with other blood pressure medicines. Its regular use as prescribed by the doctor lower the chance of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and a heart problem. It can also slow the worsening of kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension. Â Â Â
To treat hypertension in most patients, the usual starting and maintaining dose is 50 mg once daily. The maximum hypertensive effect is obtained within 3 to 4 weeks of initiating the treatment. Your doctor may adjust the dose by increasing the dose to 100 mg once daily. No dose adjustment is required for elderly patients with renal insufficiency. Usually, a lower dose is given to patients with a history of kidney disorder. For the risk of reduction of cardiovascular deaths in hypertensive patients, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily. The dose may be taken before or after consuming food.
Do not take Cosart 50 mg if you are allergic to losartan or any other statin drug. Do not take medicine if you suffer from diabetes mellitus and take a medicine called aliskiren to reduce blood pressure. The medicine is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to losartan or any other components of the medicine. Pregnant women should also avoid taking the drug, especially during the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Patients with hepatic insufficiency should not take losartan formulation. Electrolyte imbalances are common in patients with the renal disorder and should be addressed. Changes in renal function have been reported in susceptible individuals. When used during the third trimester of pregnancy, the anti-hypertensive agent can direct action the renin-angiotensin system that can cause injury and even death of the developing baby. When pregnancy is detected, the pregnancy should be discontinued as soon as possible. It is still not known whether a losartan formulation such as Cosart 50 is excreted in breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended that nursing mothers and alternative treatments with a better safety profile be administered to breastfeeding mothers.
Cosart can cause injury or death of unborn babies. Speak to your doctor straight away if you get an allergic reaction associated with the use of Cosart 50mg. The symptoms of an allergic reaction include swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue. Some patients receiving the anti-hypertensive agent may experience low blood pressure. This may cause you to feel faint or dizzy, and you should immediately lie down if you feel dizzy. People who already have renal insufficiency may experience worsening kidney function. Call your doctor if you experience swelling of your feet/ankles or hands or unexplained weight gain. Some individuals may also experience high potassium levels in their bloodstream. The common side effects of the medicine are stuffy nose, back pain, dizziness, colds, low blood sugar, chest pain, low blood pressure, high blood potassium, and tiredness. Tell your doctor if any of these side effects become troublesome.
