Acivir Dispersible tablets 400 mg treats a wide range of viral infections, including herpes labialis, shingles, herpes simplex, chickenpox, and genital herpes. It is effective in treating the initial episodes and the management of recurrent episodes of genital herpes. The medicine contains the active ingredient Acyclovir, which prevents the multiplication of virus in the body and helps prevent the infection.
Take Acivir dispersible tablet 400 mg before or after consuming food, usually 2 to 5 times a day. Be sure to maintain adequate hydration; drink plenty of fluids while taking the antiviral medication. Like any other medicine, the dosage is based on the condition and the response to the treatment. The antiviral drug works best when the amount of medication is kept at a constant level. Continue taking medicine until the full prescribed dosage is not finished. If you forget to take the dose, take it when you remember and then continue with your regular dosing regimen. Make sure you take the correct number of doses each day but avoid taking two doses simultaneously. Patients should drink plenty of water while receiving the antiviral treatment. Maintaining adequate hydration keeps your kidneys working well. If your doctor has been prescribed Acyclovir to treat genital herpes, do not have sex or indulge in oral sex while you have sores or blisters.
Acivir dispersible tablet is contraindicated for patients who develop hypersensitivity to Acyclovir or valacyclovir or other medicine ingredients. Dose adjustment is recommended when administering Acyclovir to patients with renal impairment. Exercise caution needed when taking the antiviral medication when receiving potentially nephrotoxic agents since they increase the risk of renal dysfunction and central nervous system symptoms. It is recommended to maintain adequate hydration during the entire treatment.
Patients are instructed to consult their doctors if they experience troublesome side effects, they become pregnant/intend to pregnant, they breastfeed while taking the oral medication. Acivir is not a cure for genital herpes. There is no evidence whether the medication will prevent transmission of infection to others. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease; patients dealing with the condition should avoid sexual contact with their partners to avoid infecting them. Patients are advised to initiate therapy at the first sign of an episode. Acyclovir may interact with other medicines; therefore, it is important to tell your doctor about all medications, vitamins, or herbal products you are taking.
Some of the common side effects of Acivir Dispersible tablet 400 mg include vomiting, weakness, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and headache. Call your doctor straight away if you develop serious side effects. Get immediate medical attention if your symptoms feel life-threatening or you think of a medical emergency; serious side effects and their symptoms include confusion, hallucinations, aggressive behaviour, trouble speaking, seizures, unsteady or shaky movements, decrease in red blood cells, muscle pain, liver problems, hair loss, hives, loosening of the skin, Steven’s Johnson syndrome, changes in your vision, kidney failure, etc.
